England Golf’s Volunteer of the Year: Jean Hooper, Bramley Golf Club. Sponsored by Players 1st.
Last week the England Golf Awards 2018 celebrated outstanding contributions to golf in England. Players 1st presented the award for Volunteer of the Year to Jean Hooper for her earnest and heartfelt work as junior organizer.
Volunteer of the Year, Jean Hooper
Jean Hooper, a retired teacher, was applauded for her dedication to the junior players of Bramley Golf Club. Guests were regaled with tales of how she encourages, educates and integrates juniors at her club all because of her love of the game. As Jean said herself to England golf: “The golf club is a large part of my life. I’ll keep going until they throw me out! I just love it.” Read more about Jean Hooper and her inspirational thoughts on golf and life here.
Morten Bisgaard, Chief Executive of Players 1st, who presented the award, emphasized the importance of devoted volunteers like Jean Hooper: ”We know from our player experience insights that there is a strong correlation between the number of volunteers in a club and the club’s Net Promoter Score (members’ willingness to recommend the club to others). The data shows that volunteers, besides being great for member retention, can enable any given club to deliver service levels above expectations, which in turn boosts NPS and attracts more volunteers as well as new members. So every club should prioritize having a great environment for recruiting and supporting as well as rewarding volunteer work.”
Volunteers are important to golf because they bring a singular passion and unwavering support to clubs and their members. People choose to volunteer not because they require recognition or pay, they do so because they care deeply for their fellow golfers and for the game. Such pure enthusiasm is contagious in the best way possible. It inspires exponentially. As a representative of all the volunteers in golf, Jean teaches us that golf is more than a game. Golf is life.
High spirits and gratitude
We here at Players 1st want to thank all the volunteers from around the world for their dedication to the game. It is our hope that Jean’s story will encourage and motivate all of us, from juniors to seniors, to support each other and grow the game. Finally, we want to thank England Golf for a memorable evening. We were thrilled to be a part of the celebrations, as you can probably tell from these cheery pictures of the Players 1st team.
